Selecting Between Pneumatic and Cushion Tires
Considerably contributing to the safety and handling of the machine are forklift tires. They also impact the maintenance costs. The type of forklift determines to a large extent the type of tire since the majority of forklifts are made with a specific frame that accepts only a particular type of tire. It helps to know the properties of both pneumatic and cushion tires prior to selecting a tire.

1 For tire specifications, you must check your forklift owner guidebook. Most likely your forklift runs either on cushion tires or pneumatic tires. This would limit your choice to the type of tire wherein the forklift frame is constructed.
2 Check the type of forklift. Electric pallet jack trucks and electric forklift trucks normally are made to use cushion tires that do not require a lot of friction. Pneumatic tires are usually for forklifts that are powered by diesel or liquid propane gas.
3 Check the type of terrain. Soft cushion tires are made for even grounds whereas pneumatic tires are suitable for rough grounds. Cushion tires, if utilized on grounds that are not even, could cause the forklift to get stuck since they are set lower. Pneumatic tires perform well on crushed concrete, gravel and packed stones but not on very rough terrain and potholed surfaces.
4 Make sure you know the space limitations. Forklifts utilized mainly for indoor applications should be able to turn in tight spaces. Cushion tires truly work better than pneumatic tires in those kinds of situations.
