Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
Over 200 deaths each year within North America are caused by lift trucks, or forklifts. Proper inspection and maintenance of forklift tires could help to reduce the risk of accidents.

Pre-Work Inspection
The tires on the forklift must be inspected at the start of every shift, inspected for indications of damage and wear. The air pressure in the tires needs to be inspected to make sure that the pressure is not very low. Low tire pressure could make the machinery susceptible to tip-overs while lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The selection of tire type must be based on the kind of surface wherein the lift truck would be used. For indoor applications, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are recommended. For smoother surfaces, tires tend to be smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are great for lift trucks being utilized outdoors. Pneumatic tires could grip well on surfaces that are rough as they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other Considerations
Based on Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines, all lift trucks require some periodic and some continual daily checks which is carried out every shift. The tires should be inspected again for any indication of damage, such as cuts or wear.

Forklift Safety
Forklift safety is vital for any employer or employee utilizing a lift truck since forklift accidents could be serious leading to personal injuries and even death. Even minor accidents could cost you and your company money if the merchandise or the forklift are damaged during an accident. Be sure you really know a lot regarding forklift safety issues.
