There are two standard types of lift trucks, those that run on gas and those that run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Forklifts: The IC Forklifts run on liquid propane, gas, compressed natural gas or CNG or diesel. The gas powered models are made to be utilized outdoors as they produce pollutants and gases which can be harmful if inhaled. Gas units are also suitable to be utilized in bad weather conditions and in the rain. These units could carry weights about 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel costs and maintenance, the gas powered units are a lot more costly to utilize compared to models that run on electricity, however, they cost less up front compared to electric powered units. Units which run on liquid propane are the best option to be utilized indoors.
Electric Lift Trucks: Electric lift trucks take batteries that require regular charging. Since these units do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these equipments. They are the right choice for indoor applications and warehouses. In addition, lift trucks that run on electricity are a lot quieter to run compared to other units and they do not require any fuel storage units. Among the disadvantages of electric powered models is that they can not lift loads more than 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered units.
Forklifts are specifically made to quickly and easily transport heavy cargo with ease. As the case with nearly all types of vehicle, unfortunately, lift truck accidents do occur frequently. There are specific safety rules which must be followed to be able to keep everybody safe. The most important problem is recruiting a trained operator, who would be able to show you a valid lift truck license.
On the market these days, there are numerous different styles of forklifts available. Deciding which one is right for your specific requirements would be based on the types of loads that you need to transport, what type of environment your equipment will need to operate in, for instance, outdoors or indoors or both. When you understand your particular requirements, it would be very easy to match up to the right type of lift truck. When you know your needs exactly you will be able to make a correct decision.
Another great way to get first hand experience on the various lift truck units is the try renting your lift truck. This will also enable you to see all the possible options available to you. This is a less expensive way to know if the equipment you have selected can keep up with you on the job location.
